Taking the Lead
Taking the Lead by Cecilia Tan
Description: The first book in a steamy new rockstar series that will appeal to fans of New York Times bestselling authors Sylvia Day and J. Kenner.
Ricki Hamilton and her sister have just inherited a vast estate in the Hollywood hills. Unfortunately, with that legacy comes the most exclusive club in Hollywood history, a secret BDSM establishment where only the rich and the naughty come to play. Ricki wants nothing to do with this business, and is trying to find ways to get out of having to run it . . . until she meets Axel―a sexy enigmatic rock star who makes her want to submit to needs she didn’t know she had.
Review:
I thought this book had a very intriguing story-line that didn’t totally fulfill its potential. Honestly, the description led me to believe the book would have been raunchier with the sex dungeon as a plot point. I felt that Ricki spent too much time fighting her attraction to Axel as well as the BDSM minor lifestyle he represented. Overall, I found myself liking Axel more that Ricki. He just wanted her and didn’t want to infringe or control her life. The relationship between them could have developed more. However, I will read the next book in the series and hope it progresses better. Sometimes in series, it takes an author a little while to settle into the world she or he has created. Side-note, I really liked seeing the side of the emerging rock-star. Too many rock-star books focus on bands already famous and not on ones working their way to the top. This was an interesting change of pace.
